The School Project

THE SCHOOL PROJECT

Through The School Project, we are making menstrual health education a taught subject in schools, with a focus on premenarcheal girls and their male peers. The programme ensures that children receive accurate and age-appropriate information about menstruation before it begins.

Despite the wide range of subjects taught in schools across Nigeria, menstrual education remains absent from the curriculum. This lack of information leaves many girls unprepared for menarche and contributes to misconceptions and stigma surrounding menstruation among boys.

The programme features a specially designed textbook with ten engaging modules covering topics such as the biology of menstruation, puberty, the female reproductive system, menstrual health and hygiene management, and broader societal issues including period poverty and stigma. Volunteer educators deliver the lessons over a ten-week period, creating a safe and interactive learning environment.

Through The School Project, we aim to empower young girls with knowledge about their bodies—calling things by their proper names and breaking them down for understanding—while fostering empathy and awareness among boys. Ultimately, the programme seeks to build a culture of respect, openness, and dignity around menstruation.
